Plasson Threaded Fittings explained:
-
Plasson threaded fittings are manufactured from Polypropylene for increased strength and enhanced chemical resistance.
-
Plasson’s range of threaded fittings are certified to AS/NZS 4129 and hold both ISO Type 5 and WaterMark licenses.
-
Plasson threaded fittings are made to ISO 7.1 which is equivalent to Australian Standard AS ISO 7.1.
- Male threads are tapered. Known as BSPT, these fittings are referred to as R threads in the standard.
- Female threads are parallel. Known as BSPP, these fittings are referred to as Rp in the standard.
- When these threads are screwed together, with the use of a jointing medium, typically Teflon thread tape, a seal is formed.
- The enhanced stiffness of the Plasson Polypropylene threaded fittings ensures a good seal between the threads of the male and female parts.
- In some applications products are designed with a BSP taper female thread, Rc, which is designed for sealing with a BSP taper male, R. Teflon tape or another jointing medium is required with this connection.
Other Thread Standards:
- Other thread types are found within Australia, usually in the hydraulic and gas industry.
- The hydraulic industry often uses a “G” thread. While of similar form to the Rp thread, the “G” thread is designed to seal with an o-ring or washer.
- NPT threads are often used in the Gas industry. The NPT thread has a thread angle of 550 compared with 600 of the BSP range of fittings. While it is common to interchange these threads it is not recommended.
